a study for solo classical guitar
This is possibly my oddest piece. I don’t believe I was ever up to playing this number, if only because it has some huge stretches in it and needs enormous hands/long fingers. It’s really intended for classical guitar (nylon strings), but I got better results from steel string samples for the MIDI recording on offer here (in particular the harmonics were a bit iffy from the nylon strings) — but of course that’s only what’s available in my own relatively modest sound library.
There’s no PDF score extract available here because the whole thing’s only three pages long, so you’ll have to make do with the snapshot on the right, and you can follow the whole score with the YouTube video below.
- nylon (or possibly steel) strung acoustic guitar
Performances / broadcasts / ‘real’ recordings
None so far... anyone?
This is the identical recording twice, the choice being offered in case of technical hiccups on either of the ‘mother ships’. Note: these two players will run simultaneously, so unless you fancy a double dose (out of sync) of my ‘spiritual output’, I recommend that you take care to avoid this happening!
Or just in case YouTube isn’t co-operating today...
- Sequencer: MOTU Digital Performer (Mac)
- Three different guitars!
- 1st and 2nd strings, all harmonics: Steel String 1 Finger (host: IK Multimedia SampleTank 4)
- 3rd and 4th strings: Guild Guitar Medium (host: UVI Workstation)
- 5th and 6th strings: Martin Guitar Soft (host: UVI Workstation)
Note: these two strings had to be mixed down to a mono track, as they had an odd habit of alternating between two different stereo positions from note to note!
- Score: MakeMusic Finale
- Movie: Apple iMovie
