Lullaby
a study for solo classical guitar
This is possibly my oddest piece. I don’t believe I was ever up to playing this number, if only because it has some huge stretches in it and needs enormous hands/long fingers. It’s really intended for classical guitar (nylon strings), but I got better results from steel string samples for the MIDI recording on offer here (in particular the harmonics were a bit iffy from the nylon strings) — but of course that’s only what’s available in my own relatively modest sound library.
There’s no PDF score extract available here because the whole thing’s only three pages long, so you’ll have to make do with the snapshot on the right, and you can follow the whole score with the YouTube video below.
Instrumentation
- nylon (or possibly steel) strung acoustic guitar
Performances / broadcasts / ‘real’ recordings
Listen to MIDI version (3:13)
This is the identical recording twice, the choice being offered in case of technical hiccups on either of the ‘mother ships’. Note: these two players will run simultaneously, so unless you fancy a double dose (out of sync) of my ‘spiritual output’, I recommend that you take care to avoid this happening!
Standard disclaimer
This a computer-generated mockup of music entirely or partially for ‘real’ instruments. Clearly it is no substitute for a live performance, but it’s all I’ve got — or perhaps all I can make public for various reasons. There’s a fuller disclaimer on the Listen page.
Or just in case YouTube isn’t co-operating today...
